Troubleshooting from the manual
(Continued) Motor runs and pump strokes, but output is low or there is no o tp t output.
- Check for worn spray tip. Follow Pressure Relief Procedure Warning , then replace tip. See your separate gun or tip manual.
- Check motor brushes; check for loose leads and terminals, minimum 10 mmbrush length, broken or misaligned springs, or brushes binding in holders. See page 14. Replace parts as needed. See page 14.
- Check motor armature for shorts by using an armature tester (growler). Replace motor. See page 17 .
- Check to see if pump continues to stroke when gun trigger is released. With pump on and primed, trigger gun momentarily , then release and engage safety latch. Relieve pressure, turn off and unplug sprayer. Repair pump. See manual 307-806 for repair.
- Check to see if intake valve ball and piston ball are seating properly. Repair pump. See manual 307-806 for repair.
- Check for leaking around throat packing nut which may indicated worn or damaged packings. Tighten the packing nut/wetcup. Repair pump. See manual 307-806 for repair.
- Defective pressure control transducer. Replace pressure control transducer. See page 20.
From 308785 rev D, page 13
Motor runs but pump does not stroke.
- Check displacement pump connecting rod pin (20). See page 16. Replace pin, if missing. Be sure retainer spring (35) is fully in groove all around connecting rod. See page 16.
- Check for frozen or hardened material in the pump (39). Thaw. See the NOTE below. Plug in sprayer and turn on. Slowly increase pressure setting to see if motor starts.
- Be sure crank in drive housing rotates; plug in sprayer and turn on briefly to check. Turn off and unplug sprayer. Check drive housing assembly for damage and replace if necessary. See page 24.
From 308785 rev D, page 13
Motor is hot and runs intermittently .
- Determine if sprayer was operated at high pressure with small tips, which causes low motor RPM and excessive heat build up. Decrease pressure setting or increase tip size.
- Be sure ambient temperature where sprayer is located is no more than 90 _ F and sprayer is not located in direct sun. Move sprayer to shaded, cooler area, if possible.
- Determine in sprayer was turned on, pressurized, but not operating for long periods of time. Turn off sprayer whenever you stop spraying for a while and relieve fluid pressure.

Motor does not operate Motor or motor wiring
- 1. Check digital display for error codes 1. If an error code (E=0X) is displayed, go to page 18 for error code diagnostics. If not con- tinue.
- 2. Make sure digital display is connected. If noth- ing is displayed, check power cord, power switch and all power connections for continuity. Check building circuit power. 2. Tighten any loose power connections. Re- place power switch, power cord or extension cords if damaged. Reset circuit breaker if tripped.
- 3. Check pressure control knob setting. Motor will not run if pressure control knob is at minimum setting. 3. Increase pressure setting
- 4. With drain valve open and pressure control knob set to maximum, check if there is a light blinking next to either psi , bar , or MPa a. If light is blinking, control board is commanding motor to run and prob- lem is most likely motor or motor wiring 4. Based on results of this test, investigate for possible wiring, motor, control, transducer or potentiometer problems in the following steps
- (1. Connections at control board and brushes (1. Repair any loose connections
- (2. Brushes worn. Length must be 1/2 in. minimum. Check both sides. (2. Replace brushes. Page 10.
- (3. Broken or misaligned brush springs (3. Realign or replace springs
- (4. Brushes or springs binding in brush holder (4. Clean brush holder and align brush leads for free movement
- (5. Check for armature short using an arma- ture tester (growler) or perform spin test. Page 9. (5. Replace motor
- (6. Check motor armature commutator for burn spots or other damage (6. Remove motor and have motor shop resurface commutator if possible. Page 21.

Low or fluctuating output
- 1. Worn spray tip. 1. Follow Pressure Relief Procedure Warn- ing, then replace tip. See your separate gun or tip manual.
- 2. Verify pump does not continue to stroke when gun trigger is released. 2. Service pump. See page 23.
- 3. Filter clogged. 3. Relieve pressure. Check and clean filter.
- 4. Prime valve leaking. 4. Relieve pressure. Repair prime valve.
- 5. Suction hose connections. 5. Tighten any loose connections.
- 6. Electrical supply with volt meter. Meter must read: 210-255 Vac for 220-240 Vac models. 85-130 Vac for 100-120 Vac models. Low volt- ages reduce sprayer performance. 6. Reset building circuit breaker; replace building fuse. Repair electrical outlet or try another outlet.
- 7. Extension cord size and length; must be at least 12 gauge wire and no longer than 300 ft. Longer cord lengths reduce sprayer performance. 7. Replace with a correct, grounded exten- sion cord. Use a shorter extension cord.
- 8. Low stall pressure. 8. Do either or both: c. Turn pressure control knob fully clockwise. Make sure pressure control knob is properly installed to allow full clockwise position. d. Try a new transducer.

- 10.Paint supply. 10.Refill and reprime pump.
- 11.Intake strainer clogged. 11.Remove and clean, then reinstall.
- 12.Suction tube or fittings loose. 12.Tighten; use thread sealant or sealing tape on threads if necessary.
- 13.To see if intake valve ball and piston ball are free to move and seat properly. See page 23. 13.Remove intake valve and clean. Check balls and seats for nicks; replace if neces- sary, page 23. Strain paint before using to remove particles that could clog pump.
- 14.Leaking around throat packing nut which may indicate worn or damaged packings, page 23. 14.Replace packings, page 23. Tighten pack- ing nut/wet-cup.

- 1. Current limit exceeded. 1. Switch to another circuit with less load. If sprayer has a 15/20A or 10/12A switch, change to lower value.
- 2. All electrical wiring for damaged insulation, and all terminals for loose fit or damage. Also wires between pressure control and motor. See page 21. 2. Repair or replace any damaged wiring or terminals. Securely reconnect all wires.
- 3. For missing inspection plate gasket (see page 21), bent terminals or other metal to metal con- tact points which could cause a short. 3. Correct faulty conditions.

- Control is commanding motor to run but motor shaft does not rotate. 1. Remove pump and try to run sprayer. If motor runs, check for locked or frozen pump or drive train. If sprayer does not run, continue to step 2. 2. Set sprayer to OFF and disconnect power to sprayer. 3. Remove motor cover. 4. Disconnect motor connector(s) above motor. Check that connectors are clean. Reconnect connectors. Check that connectors are fully seated and secure. 5. Set sprayer to OFF and spin motor fan 1/2 turn. Restart sprayer. If sprayer runs, replace control board. If sprayer does not run, continue to step 5. 6. Perform Spin Test: Test at large 4-pin motor field connector. Disconnect fluid pump from sprayer. Test motor by plac - ing a jumper across pins 1 & 2. Rotate motor fan at about 2 revolutions per sec - ond. Acogging resistance to motion should be felt at the fan. The motor should be replaced if no resistance is felt. Repeat for pin combinations 1 & 3 and 2 & 3. Pin 4 (the green wire) is not used in this test. If all spin test is posi - tive, continue to step 6. See connections on next page:

Ensure fan is securely attached to motor shaft. 3. Check thermal switch connector (yel - low wires) above motor. 4. Disconnect thermal switch connector above motor. Make sure contacts are clean and secure. Measure resistance of the thermal switch. If reading is not correct, replace motor. Check Motor Thermal Switch: Unplug thermal wires. Set meter to ohms. Meter should read the proper resistance for each unit (see table below). - ti13140a
